๐ TANNER Transport Update | Week 39
The most important transport and logistics news of the week โ short & concise.
๐จ๐ญ SWITZERLAND: DIESEL & RHINE REMAIN IN FOCUS
The sharp rise in diesel prices is putting increasing pressure on the Swiss road transport industry.
ASTAG has therefore sent an urgent letter to Federal Councillor Karin Keller-Sutter, calling on the Federal Council to examine temporary relief measures.
Measures under discussion include:
โฝ tax credits on fuel costs
๐ temporary relief on charges and fees
๐ an extraordinary adjustment of the KBOB index
At the same time, low water levels on the Rhine remain a bottleneck. At Maxau, vessels can in some cases load only around 400 tonnes โ significantly less than under normal conditions.
Positive news: The Cressier refinery has resumed production.
๐ For shippers:
Continue to monitor diesel and transport costs and secure capacity or alternatives by rail and road early for Rhine transports.
๐ฉ๐ช GERMAN SEAPORTS: STRIKE RISK INCREASES
The collective bargaining dispute at German seaports has intensified.
The ver.di trade union has launched a ballot on possible indefinite strike action.
Ports potentially affected include:
โ Hamburg
โ Bremen / Bremerhaven
โ Wilhelmshaven
โ Emden
โ Brake
There is currently no confirmed date for an indefinite strike.
๐ For shippers:
Monitor developments closely and, for time-critical imports or exports, already consider alternative ports and routings.
๐ฆ๐น๐ฎ๐น BRENNER: FINAL SUMMER RESTRICTION
On Saturday, 26 September, the seasonal truck restriction will once again apply on the Austrian Brenner corridor.

โก๏ธ Towards the Italian border
๐ For shippers:
Schedule Italy-bound transport early and take possible waiting times around the weekend into account.
๐ข SUEZ: MORE SERVICES RETURN
Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd are rerouting additional Gemini services between Asia and Europe through the Suez Canal.
These include connections to Northern Europe and the Mediterranean.
For these services, the longer detour around the Cape of Good Hope is therefore no longer necessary.
๐ For shippers:
Transit times may become shorter on selected AsiaโEurope services. The actual routing should be checked before every booking.
๐ HORMUZ & PIRACY: SECURITY SITUATION REMAINS CRITICAL
Despite this, there can be no talk of a general easing of the situation on global shipping routes.
The IMO has now recorded 80 confirmed attacks on merchant vessels in and around the Strait of Hormuz. At least 22 seafarers have lost their lives.
Piracy is also increasing again in the Gulf of Aden. According to the IMO, more than 90 seafarers remain in the hands of pirates or armed groups.
๐ For shippers:
Continue to closely review routings, transit times, insurance conditions and security surcharges for shipments passing through the Middle East.
