🇨🇭 Rhine & Swiss supply situation

Restricted transport capacity on the Rhine continues to put pressure on supplies to Switzerland. In addition, the Cressier refinery is temporarily out of operation. As a result, limited quantities of diesel and petrol may be released from compulsory stocks until 20 September 2026.

👉 For shippers: Check inland waterway capacity at an early stage and plan alternatives by road and rail for critical shipments.

🇩🇪 German seaports: Collective bargaining dispute not yet resolved

Following the fourth round of negotiations, a new offer has been presented for around 11,000 employees in Hamburg, Bremen/Bremerhaven, Wilhelmshaven, Emden and Brake. A final agreement has not yet been reached, meaning further industrial action remains possible in principle.

In addition, the Köhlbrand Bridge in Hamburg will be fully closed from 18 September at 21:00 until 21 September at 05:00.

👉 For shippers: Plan pre- and on-carriage to and from ports in northern Germany with additional time buffers.

🇦🇹🇮🇹 Brenner: Restrictions on 19 September

The seasonal September restrictions for heavy goods vehicles remain relevant. On Saturday, 19 September, a driving ban for trucks over 7.5 tonnes will apply on the Italian side between Vipiteno and the Brenner Pass in a northbound direction from 07:00 to 15:00.

👉 For shippers: Schedule weekend transport via the Brenner route well in advance and allow for possible waiting times.

🇳🇱 Rotterdam: Local shipping restrictions

Temporary restrictions are in place at the Port of Rotterdam this week. On 14 September, the Hartel Barrier will be closed in sections. In addition, reserve night periods with restricted operation of the Van Brienenoord Bridge are planned for 16/17 September.

👉 For shippers: Take local time windows into account for inland waterway and port traffic in Rotterdam.

🌍 Hormuz, Red Sea & piracy

Switzerland’s National Economic Supply organisation continues to report restricted vessel traffic through the Strait of Hormuz as well as attacks on ships at Bab al-Mandab. The IMO continues to describe the situation in Hormuz as unresolved. Piracy also remains a serious security risk in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.

At the same time, Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd are once again routing selected services through the Suez Canal. However, this explicitly does not yet represent a general return of all East-West services.

👉 For shippers: Continue to assess transit times, security surcharges, insurance and routings on an individual basis.
