π¨π Switzerland: Low Rhine water levels remain critical
The ongoing dry conditions continue to severely restrict navigation on the Rhine. In some cases, vessels can only operate with significantly reduced cargo loads. At the same time, the Cressier refinery is expected to remain out of operation this week due to a technical defect. According to the Swiss federal authorities, the supply of petroleum products remains secure.
π For shippers: Check capacities on the Rhine, road and rail at an early stage. Plan alternatives for time-critical imports.
π¦πΉ Brenner: Driving restrictions remain in place
Driving bans for certain trucks over 7.5 t heading towards the Brenner Pass/Italy will also apply on the A12, A13 and A14 next Saturday, 12 September 2026, between 07:00 and 15:00.
π For shippers: Schedule transports towards Italy early and allow for additional transit time.
π¨ππ½π° Customs: New free trade agreement with Kosovo
The EFTA free trade agreement with Kosovo will enter into force on 1 October 2026. Current Swiss exports to Kosovo will generally benefit from duty-free treatment, in some cases following transitional periods.
π For exporters: Check origin requirements and preferential proofs of origin in good time.
π Ocean freight: Strait of Hormuz remains a risk
The situation in the Middle East remains volatile. The IMO continues to report significant impacts on international shipping and most recently updated its list of incidents on 2 September.
π For shippers: Continue to closely monitor routings, surcharges and transit times for shipments linked to the Gulf region.
βοΈ Air freight: Demand continues to grow
Global air cargo demand in July was 3.9% higher than the previous year, while capacity increased by only 1.7%.
π For shippers: Secure capacity and rates early for short-notice shipments.
